It’s National Margarita Day! February 22....Celebrate the Day!
What better way to celebrate the middle of the week than with a margarita!
Yes there is a National Margarita Day... I have no idea how this came about but if there can be a National Blueberry Pancake Day, then why not a day to celebrate one of best things to go with chips, salsa and Mexican food since Dos Equis!
No one is quite sure who invented the margarita but it seems to have been concocted somewhere between 1938-1949. Some take theirs with salt on the rim, which is how it has traditionally been served, but one Tequila expert feels that salt is used when inferior products are used in the Margarita.
How do you take yours? Straight up? On the rocks? Some like it kind of slushy. And, there are as many recipes for Margaritas as there are bartenders!
Of course the ultimate National Margarita Day would be to have yours at Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville where there will be Margarita specials all day long and you can try the winning recipe from this year’s Margarita Day Recipe contest.... a Raspberry Lemonade Margarita.
Here are some of the different Margarita recipes:
Beer Margarita
Chocolate Margarita
Redneck Margarita
Avocado Margarita
Bloody Margarita
Smoky Margarita
And Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville with Alan Jackson video!
If you decide to celebrate the day
Please drink responsibly!

Well, this is interesting. I wonder if all the days of the year are National 'Something' Day
Beer Margarita!!!!
Thank you for posting this. I hope someone finds exactly what they are looking for here.
Hi Kathy...
And I thought that Margarita Day was every day! The things that you don't know!
Good morning, kathy...... I think we should try one of each margarita.....
Good morning Kathy,
Sounds like a plan to me! I'll take mine straight up, lime and then salt on the ridge! Cheers!!
It’s National Margarita Day!
Some I know think every day in National Margarita Day :)
I never knew this! What better excuse to enjoy the best cocktail on the face of the planet! On the rocks...no salt.
This is one of those weird hoildays I may just have to celebrate. Margaritas are my favorite...on the rocks with salt.
I just knew today was a special day when I awoke this morning. At first I thought it was because it's going to be 70-75 degrees here today. But then I read your blog and now I know the real reason today is special!!!
Kathy - Well, cheers to Margarita Day! As long as there's salt around the rim, I'm happy!
My drink of choice....back before I started getting "with child" and stopped drinking. After being pregnant three times in a row my body lost it's tolerance. In the good old days I could drink several margaritas....not any more....I get dizzy half way through one now!
Finally, a day I can relate to BARFF...................is there a National Martini Day?
I can do National Margarita Day any day of the year! Maybe there should be one alcoholic drink day for each day of the year! This may be a good reason to have a margarita later!
Doug- I do think there's a "Special Day" every day!
Rob- let's hope they do!!! I was in Lawrence last October for a KU game!!! Go Jayhawks.
Richard- I think if you're at a certain Latitude and Longitude every day is Margarita Day.
BarbaraT- All Right!!! First one's on me!
Dorie- that's exactly how I drink mine! Used to have them at Ninfa's.
John- yep! Let me guess.. are they in the KEYS?
Kathryn- Probably my second favorite adult beverage next to champagne.
Chris Ann- OK.. another On the Rocks and Salt person!
Craig- wow you're having a heat wave! Enjoy!
Sally- every one wants salt!!!
Sharon- I knew you were one of those!!! (more than 2 margaritas!!!!) Can you imagine watching Zack and Jack after a Parrothead kind of night.
BARFF- looking it up after I leave here.
It is also Losar today, Tibetan New Year! Hope you have a wonderful day!
Hi Kathy - Well, that about all the encouragement I needed - it's going to be quesadilla night, with a big pitcher of margs - the only thing missing is that, with 50 mph winds out there, we're probably not going to be sitting on the deck.
Thanks, Kathy. Like Dick, I needed very little encouragement after the week so far. And, I think steak fajitas are in order, too.
I'm not much of a margarita fan, Kathy. Think I'll pass on celebrating this holiday. Hey, is there a Hallmark card for this?
Really! I missed National Margarita Day?! Oh how sad. Well, I am quite sure I can make it up at another time lol :)!
Kathy, I missed it too! But I did have a nice fix for the day.....I baked and brought biscotti to two of my aunts over 95, a reminder of how sweet life is!
Can't think of a better holiday . . . or way to celebrate. Used to spend a lot of time in Key West, had one or two margueritas :)
Hi Kathy--well, I am not going to miss this one! Having lived in Arizona for eight years where there are 7 zillion margarita concoctions to go with all the great Mexican food I will head out to my local Mexican favorite here and celebrate!!!!
