Located just outside Omaha NE in Gretna, Vala’s Pumpkin Patch is like a mini-theme park for pumpkins. And if you think you’re going out like you would to any other pumpkin patch to buy your Halloween pumpkin... think again. Vala’s has exhibits, rides, a train, goats, a haunted house, pig races and... of course.. pumpkins!
Tim Vala grew up in Omaha and after receiving a BA in Education, decided to try his hand at farming. He bought a tractor but had no idea how to drive it home. He planted fruits and vegetables that he didn’t know how to grow, but through research and determination, found his niche. Today he has a 212 acre operation with over 55 acres planted with pumpkins.
What sounds like great family fun are the various campfire sites you can rent. Vala’s will start your
campfire for you, provide wood and bales of hay for seating. You can bring your own food or call in your order and they’ll deliver! If you’re looking for some great Halloween or Fall Fun.. Take a Trip Out to Vala’s.

On the F.O.T. (Family Obligatory Tour) we found ourselves in need of a detour route from Kansas City to Omaha. Because of the recent floods parts of I-29 (our route to Omaha) was closed. The floods were gone but the highway was badly damaged and in need of repair. We kept hearing conflicting reports about I-29 being open or closed. The Department of Transportation's website didn't appear to be recently updated. Our clue was when they said there may be ice on parts of the road. It's been 80 degrees here in Kansas.... what ice???
