The Puppetry Arts Center of the Palm Beaches in Delray Beach!

The Puppetry Arts Center of the Palm Beaches in Delray Beach

puppetThere’s a Puppet Theatre and Museum in Delray Beach just off Atlantic Avenue!   If you’re looking for something that everyone in the family can get involved in then head to downtown Delray Beach and the popular Pineapple Grove area.

The Puppetry Arts Center is a non-profit organization that strives to “use the art of puppetry to educate, inspire creativity and imagination and to enchant the diverse population.”

It’s located on NE 2nd Avenue, north of Atlantic Boulevard on the street level of the Old School Square parking garage.  There is a large 180 seat black box theatre, a museum with many puppets that have been donated,  and a museum store.  As I wandered through the museum I saw Lamb Chop, Liberace, an assortment of “pets”, Santa and Carol Channing.

Want to know more?  The Puppetry Center....
*gives 200 performances annually
*has received 2 Grants from Target to sponsor Saturday family performances
* Has 3-4,000 low-income admissions annually for Head Start and other programs
*is on the Palm Beach County provider list for field experiences
*Has Youth and Teen  programs for performance and construction.

The Puppetry Center is also in need of volunteers to help with administrative duties, fund raising and special events.

Performances are $6.50 for Adults and children.  All donations are greatly appreciated!

Valentine's Day in Delray Beach!

heartValentine’s Day in Delray Beach!

It’s Valentine’s Day in Delray Beach and there’s still time to do something special for your very Special Loved One.

Really, you can do a little more than run into your corner drugstore and buy a last minute Valentine’s Day card.  Oh...don’t forget the card but there’s still more you can do to make Valentine’s Day a special one.

Delray Beach Marriott- There may be time to snap up a reservation for a special Valentine’s Day Sun-sational Spa Package and dinner at O’Grady’s Lounge at this landmark hotel located where Atlantic Avenue meets A1A and the Atlantic Ocean.  For Reservations call 1-800-228-9290.

Sundy House-One of my favorites with tropical gardens so inviting you’d think you had taken a weekend trip to one of the islands.  There’s a prix fixe 4 course dinner and 3 course special lunch for this special day.  Be sure to allow time for a stroll through the garden after dinner.   106 South Swinton, Delray Beach. For reservations call  561-272-5678.

Cupcake Couture- If your Loved One has a sweet tooth, then head to Cupcake cupcakesCouture on Atlantic Avenue.  You can choose from Coconut Klein, Dolce & Banana, Berry Wang, Donatella Vanilla and many more.  They also offer Gluten-free,  Kosher style, vegan and sugar free products upon request.   328 E. Atlantic, Delray Beach- 561-276-2334

The Boys Farmers Market-  Want to really make an impression... make  your loved one a home cooked meal.    The Boys (a Delray Beach tradition) has the best produce around at not-to-be-believed prices... a bakery.... wine selection... prepared foods.... as well as meats and seafood.  How about steamed lobsters,   a fresh salad, fresh bread and dessert!   14378 Military Trail    Delray Beach- 561- 496-0810

Kilwin’s - Never underestimate the allure of fine chocolate.  Located in the heart of downtown Delray Beach on Atlantic avenue, Kilwin’s has been a fixture since 2001.  Besides chocolate, they offer fudge, ice cream and other fine candies.   402 E. Atlantic Avenue, Delray Beach.  561-278-0808.

These are just a few ways to celebrate Valentine’s Day in Delray Beach!

Happy Valentine’s Day! heart

Doc's All American in Delray Beach- Think Happy Days Meets our Village By the Sea!

Doc's All American in Delray Beach- Think Happy Days Meets our Village By the Sea!

Doc's All American

It may not look like much but Doc's All American has landed itself on Delray Beach's Historical Register ( this baby's here to stay... it can't be torn down!)  Located at the corner of Swinton and Atlantic Avenue, residents and visitors have been coming here since it opened in the early 1950's.

We've been treating ourselves to a Doc's burger since we moved to Delray over 24 years ago, and it's still our favorite place to go after a day at the beach. Looking for a gourmet mushroom, whole wheat, avocado burger?  You won't find it here.  The burgers and fries are as 50's American as the Fonz himself.

You can't get more casual than Doc's... orders are placed at the walk-up window, and dining is outside on their covered patio.  What better way to enjoy Delray Beach's great weather!   And if you have some time, you can walk across the street to Delray's Old School Square or head west and check out Delray Beach's Tennis Center, home to the Chris Evert Celebrity Tennis Classic.
