Interior Redesign Tips for Palm Beach County- You Owe it to Yourself to Sleep in a Retreat

Interior Redesign Tips for Palm Beach County-You Owe it to Yourself to Sleep in a Retreat.  You own your own home and have worked hard for it.  At the end of the day, don't you deserve your own escape from the rest of the world while you recoup and regenerate?

Unless your budget is limitless, most homeowners prefer to first put their efforts into updating or decorating the public rooms of their house... the kitchen and family room or great room.  This is understandable for we all have to prioritize where we choose to put our hard-earned money.

But why not treat yourself.  Below are some inexpensive things you can do to create that oasis you deserve.... your retreat from the rest of the world.

Tips for Creating Your Master Bedroom Retreat

1. Decide that this WILL be your Master Bedroom... Not the laundry folding-clothes ironing-stash- it -here room.  If you're short on space, edit what you have but don't just pile it in your Master Bedroom.

2. Create specific areas in your bedroom for reading, sleeping, lounging, or writing notes.  Depending upon the size of the room, this can be as simple as placing a comfortable reading chair, table and lamp by the window or in a corner to, if your room is larger,  an area with a love seat, table and chair and even a small writing desk.

3.  Lighting- Don't rely on just the overhead light fixture and 1 lonely lamp on your nightstand for light.  You'll want to be comfortable here during the day or at night.  What lighting you use can help to create a restful retreat.   Consider a small floor lamp by your reading chair, small lamps on your desk or dresser.  If you have a ceiling fan, update it with a new light fixture.

4.  Bedding- On average you spend about 1/3 of your life between the sheets... you owe it to yourself to make your bed as comfy and plush as you want!!   Buy a new comforter or bedspread or make a duvet cover to put over your existing comforter or spread.  Add some fluffy over-stuffed pillows and a little imagination and no one will have to tell you to go to bed.

5. Paint- Color does affect your mood... it can help to create a feeling.  Just as you don't have to have white sheets... your walls don't have to be without color.  Soft and restful are the 2 words that you want to come to mind when you see the color.

6. Headboards-Making a change doesn't mean you have to buy a whole new bedroom set.  Consider doing something different with your headboard.  Paint an accent color in a block where your headboard would be.... hang photos that have meaning to you above your bed... consider iron work or really create a cocoon by hanging netting from a central point over your bed and tying it back.  Use your imagination... just don't leave it blank with pillows stacked against the wall.

7. Window Treatments- South Florida.... it's time to ditch the vertical blinds!  Go to your nearest Home Improvement store and look at some of the alternatives to this Florida staple.  Make sure your treatments will give you the privacy you want as well as allow enough light in to brighten the room when you want it.

8.  Storage- Most houses are lacking in storage, which is why the master bedroom often becomes a dumping ground for excess.  Consider dual purpose furniture such as a padded storage bench for the foot of your bed. This can hold extra pillows, blanket or even toys for when the kids invade your space.  Opt for night tables that have drawers.
