Does N E 1 No How 2 Wrt or Spk NE More?

I was reading a post by Mimi Foster and it started me thinking about texting, Facebook, and other relatively new forms of communication. Mimi spoke of giving feedback after a showing and the lost art of polite conversation. I began to think about what was happening to our ability to actually spell and speak the English language.
I mean seriously I bet there are a lot of people who think YOUR is spelled "UR".
Remember the good old days when we used to receive email? People actually took the time to write in complete sentences... with correct punctuation... using correct
grammar? Look at me! I've taken to putting little "........" throughout all of my posts!
If I want to find out what some of my closest friends and family members are doing, I have to check Facebook or now Google+. And even then the notes are short and cryptic..."@ the beach today." or " Off to Vegas!" Don't misunderstand, I love the new social media and I like that it makes it possible for us to connect with old friends and meet new ones.
But ask yourself when the last time was that you had a dialog or conversation with someone? No...not the "How are you?"...."I'm fine, how are you?" snippets. And, no, not the text messages that we send to each other.
And, if you needed to, could you sit down and write a letter or I'll make it easy, an email that contained only grammatically correct complete sentences?
I plead guilty to all of the above transgressions but I also am going to make an effort to communicate with my friends and family via some method other than texting or other forms of cryptic media.
But, while I have you here, how about joining me on Google+
