Pay It Forward- It's the Squeaky Wheel that's About to Be Heard!
Yesterday I wrote about Green Cay Wetlands and the possibility that the Nature Center may be closed due to budget cuts. Yesterday and today I decided to kick it up a notch by taking the effort to the people who enjoy Green Cay as much as I do... my fellow walkers.
Shades of the 70's! I handed out flyers I'd made up asking people I knew from the boardwalk to consider calling, emailing or writing the County Commissioners to keep the Nature Center opened. To make it easy for everyone I included all of the contact information for them.
Everyone I approached knew about the possibility of the closing and were happy to do what they could. I didn't want to make a nuisance out of myself (my husband asked that I not get thrown in jail or have someone want to throw me over the railing!) but I actually made a few new friends along the way.
But that's not all... yesterday, one of the ladies on the boardwalk was from the Palm Beach Post and she is writing an article on Green Cay!
Who knows what will happen but if you don't get out there and try you'll never know... and I don't want to share part of the blame for shutting this great community asset.
I'm not one to talk about what I do, as I'd rather talk about what someone else does but as has been pointed out, these Pay It Forward posts are meant to encourage and perhaps inspire others to take action where they see it needed.
If you see a need whether it be in your community or with a friend, take the step forward. It may not get the result you want but at least you would have left your footprint!
