Celebrate the Day- It’s National Adoption Day... All of Our Children Deserve a Family!
The Saturday before Thanksgiving is designated as National Adoption Day and has been so since 2000. It is a day to celebrate adopted children and their families as well as a day when courts open their doors to finalize the adoption of children who are in the foster care system.
More than 25,000 children in foster care have been adopted on National Adoption
Day. And this day, and in fact the entire month of November, is an effort to call attention to the more than 100,000 children who are waiting to be adopted. These are our children and we owe them what so many of us have been fortunate to have.... a loving and caring family.
Many communities throughout each state are having events to call attention to this day. In Miami, for example, adoptions will be finalized and celebrated at the Miami Children’s Museum.
With the support of organizations such as the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption, the Children’s Action Network, the Freddie Mac Foundation, the Alliance for Children’s Rights, and the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute and many others attention will be called to the need to give these children a stable loving home.
