Question.. How ManyCouriers Does It Take to Deliver ONE Package??
I know many of my truly organized friends have already bought, wrapped, packed and shipped their holiday gifts.... go ahead... pat yourselves on the back now. But if you’re like so many of us and order online be sure to add 3-5 more days to the expected delivery date.
I learned of something recently that can affect the time line of the delivery of your package. If you're planning on receiving it in time for Christmas or Hanukkah, add a few more days. It’s not new and apparently has been around for several years. But in the last 2 months I’ve noticed that packages are taking longer and coming to me via not one but two couriers.
If you’ve seen “tendered to USPS” it means that the courier (UPS in many cases) has picked up your package at the point of origin and then delivered it to your local post office. From there the item will go out along with the other mail. And, with the USPS moving to end next day delivery of letters, postcards and other First Class Mail, that will extend the delivery.
So for what may have taken 1-3 days in the past may take 3-5 or more days. It’s more cost effective for UPS, for example, to ship to your postal zone, then let a letter carrier deliver it to your home especially for small envelopes or packages than to have the Big Brown Truck deliver it to you.
If you’re ordering something to be shipped to you or to someone else check to see exactly how it will
be shipped. Large companies can, for example, have a contract with UPS for UPS Basic. This is not what you and I use when we ship, which is usually UPS Ground. The UPS Basic can use multiple couriers and could take longer.
