Cinco de Mayo in Delray Beach- May 5th-Celebrate the day!

Cinco de Mayo in Delray Beach-  May 5th- Celebrate the Day

Cinco De MayoContrary to what you might think, Cinco de Mayo is not a celebration of Mexican Independence Day!  May 5th actually commemorates the victory of the Mexican army at Puebla over the French army during the Franco-Mexican War in 1862.

While not a strategic battle in the Mexican win over the French,  the battle at Puebla helped to give hope to the Mexican resistance, which did defeat the French in 1867.

Here in the United States, Cinco de Mayo has taken on a celebration of the Mexican heritage and culture.  We celebrate with parades, festivals, dancing, and of course margaritas!

If you are in Delray Beach you can celebrate at:

14th Annual Cinco de Mayo Festival from 2-10PM
Old School Square-
51 N. Swinton Avenue

$10/admission- Children under 10 are free

From 2-7PM Children’s Events- including Pinata Breaking!
Live music on the Stage at Old School Square

The 6th Annual Cinco de Mayo Chihuahua Races!
Held Saturday May 5th  5PM and 6PM

Cinco de Mayo

And for local Mexican dining:

LaBamba- 4285 W. Atlantic Avenue-Delray Beach-561-499-7996

La Fiesta Cafe- 2275 South Federal Hwy- Delray Beach  561-266-8558
(excellent fresh salsa and I highly recommend!)
