Saving Private Ryan, Battle of Normandy,The Longest Day, Freedom... If June 6, 1944 D-Day didn't come to mind.. please read on.
Were it not for Tom Hanks and his memorable movie, Saving Private Ryan, I doubt if many people under 50 would know what happened on this day 67 years ago.

June 6 is the anniversary of D-Day...when over 160,000 Allied troops crossed the English Channel along a 50 mile stretch of French coastline to begin the operation to fight the German troops on occupied French soil. This largest of all amphibious attacks involved over 5000 ships and 13,000 aircraft, and exacted more than 9000 Allied troops killed or wounded.
There were no cell phones or GPS's to guide them; no drones or night vision goggles. These were men, already sick from crossing a rough channel, on foot who landed on a foreign beach only to face heavy fire from the enemy. Many didn't even make if off the shoreline.
I've written about this day in a previous post, and will continue to remember it. And when I do, I always ask myself:
Would I have had the courage to do what these men did?
Please take just a few minutes to read about the courage of these men and if you haven't seen Saving Private Ryan... I encourage you to rent it.
