February 17's a Day for Celebration. . . it's World Human Spirit Day!!!
February 17 is World Human Spirit Day. Personally, I'd never heard of it until someone sent me one of those email greeting cards. So I began thinking about a day when we all celebrate the Human Spirit. At 3pm people worldwide will hold two minutes of silent meditation to contemplate the remarkable power of the human spirit and the healing powers it has. Those in the Ft Lauderdale, FL area can join others at the Point of Life Foundation for meditation and reflection . Check out your local papers for celebrations in your area.
So just what are we celebrating? Human Spirit? Never underestimate it. It has and still continues to power our world. Think it's Bill Gates or Google? Warren Buffett ? Apple? Yes, they definitely are forces in our world. However, underlying them, what got them where they are is the Human Spirit. I think it's the will to overcome; to achieve; to beat the odds.
Need an example of the Human Spirit and what it can do? On an everyday level, think of the Habitat for Humanity. Think those houses get built by a big building company? 
You got it! People, like you and me, who want to help others. People who want to make a difference in someone's life.
You've also seen the pictures from Haiti. The Power of the Human Spirit is in all of the faces there. In the eyes of the children, in those who have survived after being trapped for more than 3 weeks. It's in those who have come forward to help those in need.

There have been studies looking at cancer and the ability of prayer and positive thinking to help. Prayer circles, ie. the energy generated by a group focusing their positive thoughts towards an individual, have been established worldwide to help those undergoing some kind of serious illness. Does it work? I don't know for a fact but I do know this: Never underestimate the power, strength and will of the human spirit. I , for one, know that if I were in a health crisis, having that power to support me would be a huge gift.
Closer to home, think of the ActiveRain network. I've only been on this for a few years, and only really active for a little over a year but I've seen the numbers grow here. The Human Spirit is alive and growing. .. just look at some of the blogs and various groups such as Positive Attitude for the Weary Soul, The Optimist, and Motivational Monday. Rainers seeking to identify and celebrate the human spirit.
So, whether you spend two minutes today or tomorrow, take some time to congratulate all of us because we are the Human Spirit.
