Sometimes you just have to take a step back to go forward.
Yesterday was a busy day for me. My car had to go into the shop; I had two bids to get out and I had to finalize the rental furniture for a staging next week. And that was just part of it...... all of the little things that kept me away from my time in the Rain.
I checked in periodically but wasn't able to sit down until later in the evening. I've been trying to write and post each day and so far have succeeded. What has worked for me is to write one that is ready to post for the following day.... up at 6, post it to ActiveRain and walking by 6:30 or 7. Note the operative word "has" ... this week has been a busy one and I've been writing my post whenever I had a chance during the day.
So more to my point... I knew what I wanted to write about... or at least I had a vague idea of it. But after the first 3 sentences, when I began my next paragraph (and oh BTW... as per the pros here.... try to keep your paragraphs short... 3-5 sentences per paragraph) nothing seemed to flow right.
I would start talking about apples and then next thing you know I was writing about oranges.
After about 10 minutes I had fruit salad! I saved the post in draft mode, then tried another project.... started "shopping" my inventory for my next staging.
It was an absolute mess. Hm..m.m.m ... maybe I should go back to some of my earlier fruit salads posts.
Here's my problem... I didn't have a clear goal for my post. I had an idea, but what was I really trying to say??? I had a smorgasbord of thoughts.
Finally I chucked it all and started from the beginning. This time I picked the end goal and drew a straight line towards it. I wrote my post and didn't have to look back.
Next time you're struggling with something... when you're trying to fit the round peg in the small square hole...
Try taking a step back so you can go forward!
